Doing business – milk

I have been providing milk to the city of Lahore for the last two years now, by God’s Grace. I have always maintained, and still do, that Kemaak is the best milk in Lahore (and I say it with the intention of defending it).

Now, I have been focusing on Kemaak and its subsequent ‘expansion’. I have been able to get hold of a small shop located in the ‘heart of Gulberg’. Well, the area is more like the pancreas of Lahore, if you know what I mean. But given my target market and my intention with the first phase of expansion, it suits me just fine. God willing.

God willing, one of these will house the first shop for Kemaak

You see, my intention with this shop is that of experiment. I don’t plan big, I dream big. I plan small, itsy bity steps that need to be taken to get to that big dream ad infinitum. :)

Learning first hand the complexities – or the lack thereof – of running a shop selling one of the most perishable consumption items on the planet.

Before deciding to move in this highly competitive market, I did some research. Four shops around this market selling milk – remember, it is winters and milk is in abundance. Many milk shops prop up in Winters only to close up in the summers. Anyways, the quality of the milk in these four shops operating in and around the area is quite below average. God has been kind as usual by providing me with dependable sources in the industry, hence Kemaak quality is usually way above average. I top it off – try to – with great service blah blah blah. :)

Still, checking out what the competition offers is not only good from a business perspective, the whole exercise can be fun.

They tasted pretty much the same. I later found out that all four shops take milk from the same source!

Wish me God’s blessing. :)

Today,in an informal brainstorming session, I shared an idea about opening a restaurant on the Motorway (Islamabad to Peshawar, M-1) and all I got was blank faces and responses like, C’mon man! Do you want to be a manager of some Chapli Kebab restaurant? What will be your job? How would you finance this thing? etc.

One thing is very common, we want to remain slaves, actually modern day slavery is very charming and to many lucrative.

What do you think is the reason behind resistance towards starting new ventures by young business graduates? I’m sure majority of the companies can live without these graduates hitting the markets almost every 3-4 months.

    ??

PS. This post worked as a case study, so that was the idea. :)
Thanks a lot and keep rocking this place. I want to see more of you and off course I will be shooting. :P

What you are talking about is called stereotypes, a topic I had written extensively about on this very blog.
I have a Computer Science degrees, I talk in Punjabi (now fluent) to deal business with people regarding agriculture and milk and I give presentations in English and consult on web infrastructure to Board of Directors of BigJuicy companies :P … only because I don’t fit a stereotype for more than a day or two.
God’s Grace, all of it. And good luck with whatever you plan for. Make sure you stay where God wants you to, because then you will be what every successful businessman has been i.e. lucky.
All the best and definitely see you around, God willing.

I guess you have designed and developed a customized WP theme for your blog.

In times of Melamine death sentences, we need good milk, so all the best. And please tell me: where in Lahore can I get Kemaak? Haven’t heard of it ever before.

@bilish: This design is ‘being’ done up on Hybrid theme by JustinTadlock (http://justintadlock.com). I think this guy makes the best ‘infrastructure’ one can want out of WordPress. If you have anything to do with WordPress, definitely check the website out.

@Saadia: Kemaak (www.kemaak.com) serves a very limited number of houses in Cantt, Cavalry and to some extent, Gulberg. Which area do you live in, as we God willing, will be launching a small ‘brochure campaign’ :) shortly.

Thanks man for the link :)
I’m searching and scratching for something functional and usable for ages now. :P

    On kemaak.com,I read this.

“Daily delivery of farm fresh, raw milk.
At Rs 37/Liter. Payable at the end of each month. ”

Are you still charging the same price? and this end of month payment is a very good options for consumers.

  9. Momekh says:

@bilish: Well, now the prices have been increased to 39 per liter. :) considering that I am replying to this post after 10 months or so, it shouldn’t come as a surprise :P

@Sadia: And 10 months down the line, still we don’t cover defence :P … that is, er, not a good thing :/
